Royal Thames Yacht Club brings International Team Racing to Docklands

Between Sunday 20th and Friday 25th May the Royal Thames Yacht Club will host seven international teams for a new and exciting two-boat team racing competition in the Royal Victoria Dock close by the ExCeL exhibition centre

It was in 2000 that the Royal Thames Yacht Club inaugurated keelboat team racing in the Royal Victoria Dock and first ran the National Two-boat Keelboat Championship for the Carmela Cup, previously raced in the Solent, in this historic location, as close as yacht racing can get to the club’s origins racing in the Pool of London in the 18th Century

The arrival of the Berkeley Marine fleet of Beneteau First Class 8s in the dock in 2004 was the signal for the start of a very fruitful partnership between the fleet owners and the club that has raised the profile of the Carmela Cup and led, with the wonderful support of BMW UK Ltd. to the growing success of the BMW City Challenge, a weekday evening series that runs in the dock throughout the summer.
