The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) is on course for a record entry, with 240 yachts confirmed to take part in this year’s transocean cruising rally from Gran Canaria to St.Lucia in November, topping the previous maximum of 234 entrants in ARC 1999. With more yachts currently on the waiting list, the final entry figure may be higher still.
SEABROOK, Md., September 26, 2007 — Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT] has been selected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to compete for future information technology task orders under the Enterprise System Development (ESD) contracting vehicle. Sixteen other companies were also selected to compete for ESD tasks.
ESD is an indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract established by CMS with a one-year base and nine one-year option periods, with a contract ceiling of $4 billion.
SEATTLE, Sept. 26, 2007 — The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] has named Kidde Aerospace & Defense, Monogram Systems and Moog Inc. as partners for GoldCare, the lifecycle support solution for the 787 Dreamliner.
Kidde Aerospace & Defense, an operating unit of Hamilton Sundstrand, is the exclusive supplier of fire detection and suppression systems for the 787.
Monogram Systems will provide the complete water and waste systems. Design improvements include tank capacity automation and simplified maintenance.
Moog Inc. (MOGA; MOGB) will supply the primary flight control actuation system. This system will control all of the primary flight control surfaces on the airplane including spoilers and horizontal stabilizer.
ORLANDO, FL, September 26, 2007 — Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has received a contract from the U.S. Air Force (USAF) for 45 additional Sniper Advanced Targeting Pods (ATP). The follow-on order will be funded by a defense emergency supplemental bill; contract terms have not been finalized.
Sniper pods are currently flying on the USAF’s F-15E, F-16 blocks 30/40/50 and A-10, in addition to international F-18 and Harrier platforms. Sniper ATP’s common software/hardware interface design enables the USAF to “plug & play” Sniper across platforms providing a single common hardware/software configuration across the fleet.
Sept 10, 2007 –[ASDWire]– Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) has signed a contract with the Norwegian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for Underwater Surveillance and Protection. KONGSBERG by KDA will carry out the 3 year project in cooperation with Kongsberg Maritime (KM) and Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), and assisted by the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN).
First version of the integrated surveillance and protection system has already been installed at Haakonsvern, the main base of the RNoN. Necessary adaptations, improvements and extensions will be implemented in the integrated system during the project period.
The background for the project is the general need for protection of Norwegian installations in Norway, and protection of Norwegian forces in international operations.
MONROVIA, Calif., Sept. 26, 2007 – AeroVironment, Inc. (AV) (NASDAQ:AVAV), a leader in unmanned aircraft systems and efficient electric energy systems, today announced that it has received a contract from the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for the development and military utility assessment of its Global Observer unmanned aircraft system (UAS). This contract initiates a Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration, or JCTD. The JCTD is sponsored by multiple U.S. government organizations. The contract calls for the development of up to three Global Observer aircraft over the next three years to demonstrate the ability to operate in the stratosphere for up to 7 days without landing. The basic contract, which will be funded under a cost-plus fixed-fee arrangement, provides for the development and delivery of the initial Global Observer aircraft, and is valued at approximately $57 million. The contract also includes options for the development and delivery of up to two additional Global Observer aircraft, resulting in a potential contract value of $108 million.
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Sept. 26, 2007 — Boeing [NYSE:BA] forecasts that Latin American airlines will need 1,730 airplanes worth $120 billion over the next 20 years, according to an analysis presented Monday at the Latin America Airfinance Conference in Rio de Janeiro.
