The hunt is on to find the UK’s Landscape Photographer of the Year – and this year there is a special prize for the best picture taken in a National Park, including the Broads.

The prestigious competition with a £10,000 prize is being backed by England’s National Park Authorities to celebrate their 60th anniversary and the Broads Authority’s 20th birthday, as well as Natural England.

Sunderland’s RNLI lifeboat was amongst a host of emergency services that were called in to action after a man fell 85ft from Wearmouth Bridge into the River Wear.

Shortly after quarter past twelve (am) this morning [Tuesday, 30th June] Humber Coastguard requested the immediate launch of Sunderland RNLI’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat “Wolseley”.

Dover and Littlestone-on-Sea Lifeboats go to look for missing dinghy

The volunteer RNLI crews of the Dover all weather and Littlestone-on-Sea Inshore Lifeboats launched on Monday (29th) afternoon after Kent Police reported a dinghy and its six occupants going missing off the beach near Hythe’s Imperial Hotel.

Reports indicated that a small, outboard motor powered, inflatable dinghy had been seen going out of sight, towing a lilo. Police Officers on scene were worried that the craft’s occupants could be at serious risk.

Clacton-on-Sea lifeboat launches to motor boat in fog

Clacton-on-Sea’s Atlantic 75 lifeboat was called into action shortly before 6pm when a 24 foot motor boat reported engine failure.

Having dropped anchor the boat gave its position as one mile off Jaywick. There was a heavy sea mist with visibility varying from a few hundred metres to three kilometers.

Summer Rescues for the Littlehampton RNLI

It was a busy day for Littlehampton Lifeboats who attended 3 shouts in one day, bringing their total call outs this year up to a massive 46.

After a 999 call to the coastguard the crew launched their Atlantic 75 ‘Blue Peter 1’ at approximately 10.20 to search for a wind surfer reported to be in difficulty west of Bognor Pier. The casualty was returned to shore safely and the lifeboat returned back to the river as soon as the tide allowed.

Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat B727 ‘Commander and Mrs Rodney Wells’ launched on service at 5.14 pm to the angling boat ‘Anya’ which had broken down six and a half miles south east of Rye Harbour entrance.

At 5.27 pm RNLI Lifeboat B727 arrived on scene and eight minutes later, had the angling boat ‘Anya’ in tow and were heading back to harbour.

West Coast Custom Bike Show in aid of the RNLI

Barmouth locals and visitors were treated to a commendable show of custom built motor cycles displayed by the North Wales Chopper Club at the RNLI Lifeboat Station on Barmouth Promenade last Saturday.

The Bro Cader Motor Cycle Trials Club based in Blaenau Ffestiniog was also on hand to provide three action packed displays of youth motorcycle trials riding around a specially prepared arena on the adjacent car park.

Newquay RNLI assists two people cut off by the tide

Newquay’s inshore lifeboat launched at 6.40pm on Friday 26 June 2009 to assist the coastguard cliff recue team rescue two people half way up the cliff near Tolcarne beach.

The D class lifeboat, Valerie Wilson, helmed by Joe Emmett, swiftly launched and arrived on scene within two minutes.

Porthcawl RNLI lifeboat rescues swimmers

Porthcawl’s Atlantic class RNLI lifeboat was called into action on Saturday afternoon (27 June) after two young men attempting to swim out to Tusker Rock got into trouble. The alarm was raised by an off duty policeman who was fishing and noticed the pair running into the water and disappearing out of sight.

He contacted Swansea Coastguard who requested the launch of the Porthcawl RNLI lifeboat.
