More than a few boats took to Victoria Harbour today to practice in advance of Thursday’s start of the 25^th edition of the Rolex China Sea Race. Winds permitting, the 30-boat fleet will start at 1210 off the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, with the cityfront providing a dramatic backdrop and tactically challenging conditions, with the seagoing traffic providing obstacles to avoid.

Discovery’s Launch Moves Closer

At NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, space shuttle Discovery is undergoing final preparation for liftoff Monday at 6:21 a.m. EDT. Technicians at Launch Pad 39A are pressurizing the shuttle’s reaction control system and main propulsion system for flight.
As they wrap up their final day at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, the STS-131 astronauts are preparing to arrive at Kennedy’s Shuttle Landing Facility tomorrow at about 7 a.m.

Plymouth lifeboat launched to cargo ship in difficulties

Plymouth’s all-weather lifeboat was launched today to a Cargo vessel Taigeta, which was in difficulties off Stoke Point to the east of Plymouth. The lifeboat and its volunteer crew spent four hours in seas of up to four metres standing by the ship until a rescue tug arrived on scene.

March 30, 2010, Nanny Cay, BVI: The day dawned with perfect conditions for the forty-six boats racing in the Bitter End Cup, the first day’s racing of the 2010 BVI Sailing Festival. In four classes, the boats beat from Nanny Cay Marina in Tortola to the North Sound on the east end of Virgin Gorda. Boats and crews ranged from the sleek, sexy and professional to those who were just along for the fun of it, from the stripped out carbon Frers 44’s to a Moorings 4700 towing a dinghy, making their way east to the finish line and the parties at the Bitter End Yacht Club.

Cape Breton Island soars into San Francisco after taking line honours across the North Pacific
Just before midday local time and with the sun breaking through the clouds to herald the yacht's arrival, the eagle of Cape Breton Island came swooping under the Golden Gate Bridge as the Canadian entry arrived victorious in to San Francisco. With their spinnaker billowing out before them, the team, which promotes the Canadian Island of Cape Breton as 'Nova Scotia's Masterpiece', has claimed their second line honours of the 35,000-mile Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race, crossing the Noonday Rock finish line near the North Farallone Islands at 0725 local time (1425 GMT).

Bulgarian Border Police Takes Delivery Of Its First AW109 Power

Scarborough RNLI all weather lifeboat rescues stricken trawler

Scarborough’s RNLI all weather lifeboat launched on 30 March at 03:45hrs at the request of Humber Coastguard to assist a scallop trawler which had suffered a mechanical failure and was in danger of running aground.
