Discovery and Crew Draw Closer to Launch Day

Tue, 30 Mar 2010 02:12:24 PM GMT+0100

At Launch Pad 39A today, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center technicians will pressurize space shuttle Discovery’s main propulsion system for flight in preparation for its 6:21 a.m. EDT liftoff on April 5.

The STS-131 crew continues to slip their sleep schedules to accommodate their mission flight schedule, as they prepare to fly to Kennedy from their home base in Houston on April 1.

Last Friday, NASA managers gave Discovery the “go” for launch after an all-day Flight Readiness Review meeting. At the review, they determined that there were no unresolved issues that would prevent Discovery and crew from flying a safe and successful mission.

CLIPPER 09-10 – RACE 7: QINGDAO TO SAN FRANCISCO – DAY 29

* Cape Breton Island closes in on finish line
* Race Committee agrees Jamaica Lightning Bolt's application
for redress
* Nail-biting battle for the line in prospect for Qingdao
and Jamaica Lightning Bolt

It's the million dollar question. You've raced 5,600 miles
across the planet's biggest ocean, you've battled through
storms, been knocked off your feet by the force of the water
crashing over the open deck, surfed down waves taller than
houses, been scared, exhilarated and exhausted in equal
proportion and for the last four weeks lived on diet largely
made up of pasta and sauce - but just what do you want to
eat for your first meal ashore?

over the past year and new targets were likely to be sought.

STELLAR PERFORMANCES CAP THREE DAYS OF ISLAND RACING

Last year he lost this event in the final races on the last day, but
this year at the 37th International Rolex Regatta
<http://www.rolexcupregatta.com> (March 26-28), Puerto Rico's Fraito
Lugo had built some good padding into his score line over two days and
followed form on the third, today, to win the IC 24 class and a Rolex
timepiece (which he awarded to his trimmer Milton Gonzalesz) as proof of
his team's prowess shown over 17 races. Lugo now can claim eight
International Rolex Regatta victories in a variety of classes, but he
remained "in the moment" back at the St. Thomas Yacht Club, where a
magnificent stage - built over the water while the sailors were out
racing - seemed to magically appear in time for an energy-charged awards
ceremony for the nearly 70 teams competing.
