Russia’s Vladimir Silkin aboard Anna leads the European wave after winning the Primo Cup, which also served as the fourth event of the Jefferson Capital Monaco Sportboat Winter Series. Back in the USA, Liam Kilroy on Wildman won the Miami Winter Regatta. This achievement not only makes him the youngest person to have ever won a major Melges 20 regatta, but it’s also the first time that a junior helm has ever lead a major regatta series in the Class.
Since the very beginning, Corinthian talent has woven its way deep into the fabric of the Melges 20 Class and culture. Today the International Melges 20 Class Association (IM20CA) takes great pride in recognizing these special amateur sailors and their extraordinary accomplishments. Leading the European Corinthian category on the WST ranking is Sweden’s Johannes Lind-Widestam on Intermezzo, and John Brown’s Blind Squirrel leads on the North American side.

Representing a global challenge involving the very best teams racing a Melges 20, the WST is a year-long competitive opportunity that provides more than 40 days of racing, spans three continents and includes only the ‘main’ events on the Class calendar.
In 2015, the IM20CA celebrated one of its most successful racing seasons ever. More than 150 teams, representing 18 nations made it a record-breaking year confirming that the Melges 20 Class is very much alive and raging.
Hosted by the Coconut Grove Sailing Club on 4-6 March, the Melges Rocks Regatta marks the final stage of the 2016 Miami Winter Series. Soon after, the North American fleet travels to Charleston, SC on 14-17 April. For a second consecutive year, the North American fleet will host their U.S. National Championship in conjunction with Sperry Charleston Race Week.
