Daughters of UK-based F1 team personnel to attend special event
Dare To Be Different builds up towards British Grand Prix
Initiative highlights breadth of opportunities in motor sport
Dare To Be Different has invited 100 daughters of F1 team personnel to a special event at Daytona Milton Keynes kart circuit on Thursday 7 July, ahead of the British Grand Prix at nearby Silverstone (8-10 July).
Just like the other D2BD events being held around the country, the invited girls – all aged eight to 11 – will get the chance not only to try karting but also to learn about other aspects of the sport. There will be an engineering activity run by STEMNET, a fitness and nutrition workshop, a wheel-change challenge and the opportunity to present to camera with Sky Sports F1. An F1 show car will also be on display.
D2BD co-founder Susie Wolff said: “Having talked to our partners and others in the sport, we decided that putting on a day for daughters of Formula 1 team employees in exactly the same vein as our school activities would offer a fantastic showcase for our ‘headline’ Dare To Be Different events. As a key partner of the programme, Daytona Motorsport’s enthusiasm and support have been invaluable every step of the way.
“The Dare To Be Different events were set up to give young girls a small taste of the opportunities around the business of motor sport – from driving, health and fitness to engineering, media and PR. We feel a great way to extend the message to the wider sport is to bring it to life through those already involved.
“We are delighted by the co-operation we have received from the teams, and are looking forward to welcoming almost 100 girls between the ages of eight and 12 to Daytona Milton Keynes next Thursday as well as their parents and our campaign supporters. These girls have a natural connection to the sport through their parents, so I am sure they will be inspired by experiencing challenges in the environment in which their mother or father works.”
Members of the media are invited to attend the event from 10.00am on Thursday 7 July at Daytona Milton Keynes, where Susie Wolff and other D2BD ambassadors will be on hand to talk about the campaign. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further information or to register your interest.
