Clarksons hack: Shipping giant fears hackers may leak confidential data

UK shipping giant Clarksons has confirmed that it was hit by hackers, who appear to have been successful in stealing sensitive and confidential corporate data. The firm said that it suspects that the hackers may soon leak the stolen data, likely in retaliation to the company refusing to meet the cybercriminals’ ransom demand.

Foss to build Damen ship assist and escort tugs for U.S. market
November 29, 2017 — Foss Maritime and Damen Shipyards have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the Foss Rainier, OR, shipyard build the first four of a series of at least 10 Damen ASD 2813 tugs, with delivery planned for 2019. The tug design has been modified to meet the unique demands of the U.S. tug assist and escort market and, while Foss will construct the tugs to supplement and enhance its fleet, tugs of this build series will be available for purchase by other U.S. tug operators.

Day of Extremes at Sail Melbourne International Day Two (29 Nov – 3 Dec 2017)

It was another day of extremes at Sail Melbourne International for the second day of Olympic class racing (Thursday, 30 November 2017). More high temperatures and a hot breeze blowing off the land did not allow the sailors any cool off out on Port Phillip. A full day of racing was completed in most classes though with gains and losses across the fleets.

Navy deals with delays in getting McCain and Fitzgerald to repair yards
November 28, 2017 — After various delays, the Navy is getting back on track with its repair plans for the two Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers involved in collisions with merchant ships that cost the lives of 17 sailors.

USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) today departed Subic Bay, Philippines aboard heavy lift transport vessel MV Treasure in route to Fleet Activities Yokosuka.

NSA breach spills over 100GB of top secret data

Earlier this week it was reported that NSA suffered a breach that revealed top secret data. A virtual disk image belonging to the NSA — essentially the contents of a hard drive — was left exposed on a public Amazon Web Services storage server. The server contained more than 100 gigabytes of data from an Army intelligence project codenamed “Red Disk”.
