Rolls-Royce may sell off commercial marine business
Rolls-Royce said that it is looking at the “strategic options” for its commercial marine operation and planning a reduction from five operating businesses to three core units that will see its naval marine and nuclear submarines operations consolidated with its existing defense business.
Vigor Marine wins $19.6 million Navy award
Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, OR, is being awarded a $19,629,518 firm fixed price contract to prepare for and accomplish repair and alteration requirements for USS Kidd (DDG 100) Chief of Naval Operations scheduled, selected restricted availability (SRA) in support of the DDG-51-class destroyer ship repair program.
Methanol fuel cells power German excursion vessel
According to SerEnergy, the vessel’s energy system is a hybrid constellation consisting of a fuel cell system and a battery pack, where the fuel cells work as a range extender allowing the vessel to sail for an entire day without fueling. Using waste heat from the fuel cell to drive the methanol reformation process leads to a high electrical efficiency between 40-50%.
MAN: Part-Load Optimization pays off for small bore four-strokes
MAN Diesel & Turbo reports that it has now received 180 orders for its Part-Load Optimization initiative, a tuning method that optimizes fuel-oil consumption during the part-load operation of four-stroke, small-bore MAN auxiliary engines.
