It has been revealed that security researchers having been giving exposed Amazon storage users warnings that their private content maybe public. The messages urge owners to secure their information before it can be stolen by hackers. There have been a number of AWS data breaches in the past year with misconfigured settings being blamed as the root cause.

In light of this news, Javvad Malik, security advocate at AlienVault said the following:
“When it comes to using cloud services, there is a shared responsibility model whereas while the cloud provider will assume responsibility and security for the host operating system, down to physical security, the customer is responsible for other aspects.
Customers cannot simply outsource complete security responsibility to a cloud provider and need to ensure configurations are correct, as well as monitoring their cloud environments for threats and attacks.”
