Rain delays the start of the regatta…

Waking up to the sound of thunder, lightning and rain, is very demoralizing for sailors to approach the days proceedings. As the radar displayed a widespread pattern, the AP flag was hoisted ashore and left sailors looking out to sea and hoping for a break in the weather. PRO Simon James and the race team were on station and just after 1100 the AP was lowered and sailors headed out wearing wet weather gear, into the drizzling rain. The saving grace was an 8 to 10 knot Northerly that got Race 1 underway and completed but an approaching storm cell signaled no further racing today.

The worrying debate over Britain’s place in the Customs Union has emerged, yet again, as the latest ploy to dilute the Clean Brexit voted for by 17.4 million Britons. In a move last Wednesday the unelected House of Lords voted overwhelmingly in favour of an amendment to the EU (Withdrawal) Bill. The proposal, which seeks to force the UK Government into a Customs Union with the EU, has the potential to stifle the UK’s global trading ambitions, and tether us to a stagnating trade bloc.

April 27, 2018 — The former Westpac Express, an Austal high speed cat delivered in 2001 and chartered by the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift until January 2018, has now entered service with Irish Ferries as the Dublin Swift, following an extensive refurbishment at the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The 100.9 m Dublin Swift replaces a smaller Austal cat, the Jonathan Swift, delivered in 1999, on the Dublin Holyhead route and is now the largest fast ferry crossing the Irish Sea.

April 27, 2018 – Portoroz, Slovenia – The second event of the 2018 Melges 24 European Sailing Series kicks off with a full day of racing in the spectacular Slovenian bay of Piran: after having left the moorings of Yacht Club Marina Portoroz for the start at 12.00 as by schedule, the twenty-five participating crews of eleven nations have completed three races with Northerly breeze that progressively went decreasing in the afternoon.
