Amnesty will likely pass if you do nothing today.
Today, a vote is expected in the House of Representatives on Paul Ryan’s “compromise” amnesty plan. They are calling it “Goodlatte II” to try to convince conservatives that it is a conservative plan.
|What’s worse, President Trump’s advisors appear to have convinced him to support the plan and he is now urging Republicans in the House to pass it.
Here’s the problem. This bill provides certain amnesty now, with a promise of border security later. We’ve seen this movie play out before, and we know how it ends – amnesty now and border security never!
Under this legislation, 1.8 million DACA recipients – or so-called “dreamers” – would be given amnesty and put on a pathway to citizenship in 8 years. Once those people became citizens, they would be allowed to sponsor their illegal immigrant parents (the same ones that brought them here illegally in the first place) to become citizens. That puts the generous estimate of amnesty recipients to upwards of 5 million people. On top of that, our courts will be jammed with cases of people claiming that they should be covered under DACA so that they too can receive amnesty.
Even Tea Party Leader Debbie Dooley of Georgia, one of the most passionate Trump supporters we know, sees this bill for what it is. Today she tweeted in response to the President:
This legislation is a recipe for disaster and will do nothing to solve the illegal immigration problem that we have had for decades.
What’s more, in a recent poll conducted by President Trump’s pollster for Tea Party Patriots Action, we find that the majority of Americans don’t think it is fair or right to create a special pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants that would effectively allow them to jump the line of legal immigrants who are going through the appropriate process. From Jenny Beth’s column in The Hill today:
“Moreover, fully 75 percent of all likely voters do not think it is fair or right to allow a particular group of illegal immigrants to “jump the line,” compared to just 11 percent who think it is fair. Those numbers hold across virtually all demographic subgroups. Among Trump voters, the margin is 86 percent to 8 percent. Among Republican voters, it’s 87 percent to 8 percent. Even among Clinton voters, a margin of 62 percent to 16 percent, and among Democrats, a margin of 61 percent to 18 percent, do not think it is fair.”
Ian, we’ve seen this story play out before and we know how it ends. Call and tweet your representative today and urge them not to pass amnesty. Tell them about our recent survey results and Jenny Beth’s column in The Hill today for evidence on why they shouldn’t pass amnesty.
