Over 60 Ginettas will descend on the Circuit de Spa Francorchamps in Belgium next weekend (20 – 22 July) as the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge, G40 Cup, British GT and European GT4 Series come together at one of the world’s most iconic circuits.
A combined grid for the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and G40 Cup sets the stage for a 59-car grid, as championship regulars are joined by a whole host of new faces when the championship battle continues.
Of the GT5 contingent, James Kellett – who has finished every race thus far on the podium – arrives at Spa with a 50-point lead over second-placed man Shane Stoney, but expect the pair to be racing hard here. It’s all to play for in the Am class though, as Richard Evans and Adrian Campbell-Smith are split by just five points heading into the event.
Meanwhile, the G40 Cup reaches its halfway mark here, but Tom Golding is already a massive 70 points ahead of his closest rival, Jack Oliphant. With Rob Keogh sitting out the event, it gives Tom Sibley, Jimmy Thompson, Dimitri Sedashev, Alistair Barclay, Ron Linn, Bill Forbes and Shawn Fleming the opportunity to leapfrog to third in the standings.
Eight new drivers will make their GT5 / G40 Cup debuts this weekend. Lee Goldsmith graduates from the GRDC series with Assetto Motorsport, whilst brand-new faces come in the form of SVG driver Andy Ball, W2R Motorsport racer Dave Carr and Xentek Motorsport new boy James Robinson. Matthew Bentley Racing joins the GT5 family with Alex Van Nederveen, whilst making the switch from Ginetta GT5 Challenge Sweden are Hampus Rydman (Reflex Racing), Niclas Harbig (Privateer) and Mikael Karlsson (Privateer).
It’s not just the road and race iterations of the Ginetta G40 on show either. The G55 GT4 will feature across the British GT and European GT4 grids too as part of the SRO Speed Week, which will see more than 20 races staged at the Belgian track.
HHC Motorsport arrive leading both the British GT and European GT standings. Callum Pointon and Patrik Matthiesen lead British GT4 in their #55 Ginetta. The pairing has a good chance at success as they won’t serve a pitstop success penalty whereas the drivers in second, third and sixth overall will.
Will Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton lead European GT4 with HHC, having won the British GT4 championship with the same team in 2017. The duo finished second and third at Spa last year, and will be looking for similar success this weekend.
The Ginetta family is completed by a second entry for HHC in British GT; the #50 G55 GT4 of Mike Newbould and Will Burns. Whilst Classic and Modern Racing (CMR) will field a pair of cars for Stephane Tribaudini and Pierre-Alexandre Jean and Eric Mouez and David Loger in European GT4.
