SANS Institute has released its 2018 Threat Hunting Survey report, showing that whilst techniques, tools, and the scope of threat hunting is expanding, the practice is still relatively poorly defined amongst IT professionals.
Key findings from the report are:
- 43% of respondents now perform continuous and more accurate operations, up from 35% in 2017
- Dwell time has reduced to an average of above 90 days, down from over 6 months in 2013
- Tools and technology are being prioritised as investments over developing staff capabilities
